HOPE FOR KABONDO-Kenya Update report October 2008
HOPE HOME
As usual, the children are all fine and are growing well and fast. Ten are attending school. Aluoch , Fred, Ambasa, Millicent, Newton are now well settled in the preschool. Millicent started class one.
Frans, Lizy, Joseph, François, Gina, Monica, Paul, Emily, have started baby class. They are still very young but its to motivate their speech and movement.
The rest Jane, Elsi, and the little ones stay at home.
The FOUR AT ONCE Last week on Thursday and Friday we received new born twins, the mother died after delivery in Kisumu hospital. They are on ART prophylaxis before they are tested after six months to know their o status ,a premature baby (six months), the mother died and the father had died seven years before. She will be buried on Sunday. And a normal one of a sixteen year old primary school girl who had a baby at home then the placenta was retained for three days. The mother of the girl did not take good care of her. She should not have died. She was in class seven. The boyfriend is not known.
The ladies are doing well and working hard. The newborn babies are still in my house under the care of mama Margaret and I. the one who had TB is now at Hope home and is doing very well. He may soon start taking ARTs.
The building.
The second block was started. It was kind of Frans* to leave it started so we are sure it's as strong as the first block. He said it may take long before he comes back to Kabondo. I also thought that with the two blocks done the children would already have almost enough space, if the other two may tale some time to build.
The Agricultural activities Has grown so fast. The cows are fine , the pigs are 70 now. We will start selling some. The paprika we planted and egg plants have done very well. The activities have attracted agricultural officers so last Thursday we had a prestigious agricultural field day at our home. Its mail objective is to share information and see what others do to learn from it. We have become a learning centre. The groups were also present with their produce. The agro activities here have changed the face of the area. (thank you so much), on behalf of everyone whose life have been touched by the results of these activities.
Replacement of the babies
Doreen the girl who had a child before age has taken back Mark. Natalia has also joined the family. Her father got married and with the other siblings, they are able to care for her with a small budget from hoho for support like we do with children living alone. They are doing well.
We are still to hand over Jane; her father is married and has a job. So one by one, we hope we shall be able to create space for the very little ones. Millicent is old enough, Aluoch will start going back during the holidays when her sister is back from school. Joseph is also strong enough to be placed back.
Its very hard to deny the new born babies a chance to life. There are no places for newborn babies. There are several homes for the children who are 5 years and above. They should review the real needs.
A CBO office in Kadongo shopping centre. I am very sorry it takes me time to write reports. The work here is overwhelming. I decided for the convenience of the other sister CBOs and groups to place the office equipments to Kadongo so they can access internet and be able to send reports. I have also placed 3 old ones for people who want to learn computer .
With all our love, the children, the ladies, the CBO
